Highmark waives deductibles, co-insurance and co-pays for in-network, inpatient hospital care for COVID-19 treatment PITTSBURGH (April 2, 2020) — Highmark has announced that members who require in-network, inpatient hospital care for COVID-19 will not incur any deductibles, co-insurance and co-pays, effective immediately. Both UPMC and Highmark committed to waiving all deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance costs for insurance members who receive in-network, inpatient care related to covid-19, the disease caused.

Copays

Highmark wanted to make you aware that effective immediately, members who require in-network, inpatient hospital care for COVID-19 will not incur any deductibles, co-insurance and co-pays.

This applies to members with group employer coverage (self-funded groups may elect to opt into the program), as well as ACA and Medicare members.

  1. Highmark will continue to waive cost-sharing for in-network, inpatient COVID-19-related hospital care, as well as extend coverage of telehealth services, through Sept. Highmark initially.
  2. To ensure our members are quickly able to access the right care in the right setting during the COVID-19 outbreak, Highmark is committed to assisting you in this important effort to ensure that our members have continued access to quality health care despite such challenging circumstances.

If an ASO Clients Chooses to Opt-in

If an ASO client chooses to opt-in to COVID-19 Relief Program they must inform their Highmark Client Manager in writing of their intent to participate in the program by 5 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Friday, April 10, 2020. If a client chooses to opt-in to the program, Highmark will apply their decision retroactive to the effective date.

Highmark previously waived out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 testing and telehealth, and is now doing the same for related inpatient hospitalization following a positive test.

The waiver will continue through May 31, 2020, as Highmark continues to monitor and evaluate the rapidly changing nature of this crisis.

Highmark has also expanded access to both in- and out-of-network teleaddiction services for members in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware who are in addiction treatment and need immediate help without any out-of-pocket costs.
